First in-person meetings of RADIANT and the Responsible Electronics project portfolio set the stage for the upcoming years

The two meetings held in February 2025 provided the RADIANT consortium with the opportunity to present progress achieved in the first months of the project and discuss potential collaborations with other initiatives across Europe.

Searching for synergies among the project portfolio

The Responsible Electronics project portfolio of the European Innovation Council’s (EIC) Pathfinder Challenges programme 2023 came together at the University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands in mid-February. The aim of the first in-person meeting was to discuss joint objectives and activities between the nine portfolio projects working to reduce the environmental burden of the electronics industry
RADIANT was represented in the meeting by four partner institutions, including the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), the University of Lund (LUND), Jaume I University (UJI), and Zirka InnoTech (ZKI). The participants joined sessions of the four working groups of the portfolio, which focus on technical synergies, outreach and dissemination, life-cycle assessment and metrics for sustainability, as well as the protection and exploitation of the project portfolio activities.

Though the nine projects have diverse approaches for improving the sustainability of electronics, the meeting gave the attendees the opportunity to discover potential synergies between the projects to work towards common goals. The portfolio activities will run throughout the lifespan of RADIANT, allowing the consortium to collaborate with the other projects actively in the upcoming years to achieve maximum impact.

Discussing the pathway towards reaching the RADIANT objectives

After the meeting in Eindhoven, at the end of February, the full RADIANT consortium came together in Barcelona in Spain for its first in-person meeting organised by ICMAB-CSIC.
The two days included a public workshop titled “Nanomaterials for Light” with presentations from various project partners, more specifically Maria Isabel Alonso from ICMAB-CSIC and PIs Dmitry Baranov from LUND, Iván Mora-Seró from UJI, and Lakshminarayana Polavarapu from the Universidade de Vigo (UVIGO), a laboratory visit at ICMAB-CSIC, as well as a consortium-only meeting to discuss the advances of the project during the first four months and an overview of next steps.

To top off the project-related activities, the first day of the meeting included a visit to the Casa Milà in Barcelona city centre—an ideal environment for sparking inspiration to continue taking LED technologies to the next level using chirality!
